10.17: The Hunter’s Moon — invite transformation and change

the hunter's moon is a time to welcome change and transformation
October Full Moon Reflections + Yoga

Join Marta for our monthly Full Moon Reflections + Yoga class on Thursday, October 17th! This special monthly yoga class has a different Teacher each month, leaving no two classes the same. Full Moon Reflections + Yoga combines postural yoga, breath work, meditation and special theming to create a holistic experience for mind, body + spirit. October’s Full Moon in Aries features the Hunter’s Moon — a time to humbly illuminate our depths, shed away our darkness and invite change and transformation into our lives!

Our October Moon goes by many names:

  • Sanguine Moon
  • Blood Moon
  • Dying Grass Moon
  • Rice Drying Moon
  • Freezing Moon or Ice Moon
  • Travel Moon

These names signal a time of change and preparation. The Hunter’s Moon always follows the Harvest Moon each year. These are the only two moons that change year to year, as they follow the Autumn Equinox. This moon traditionally noted the time when the crops have been gathered, the deer has fattened, and it is easier to see the animals for hunting. We prepare ourselves for the months ahead. As we note the changing colors of Autumn, the shedding of the leaves, and the migration of the birds, we are reminded that Winter is on the horizon. We are leaving a season of plenty and entering a season of moderation.

This month’s moon sits in Aries and is the third of four Supermoons in a row! Aries invites us to be self-focused and self-oriented. We can allow the bright illumination of this supermoon to help us peek into the shadows of the self. What aspects of ourselves are we clinging towards, keeping us from reaching transformation? We may see ourselves just at the edge of change — it is time to fully transform, to step into the doorway of our possibility.

Prana is abundant at this time of year, creating space for potential and possibility. Once we have shed away the cobwebs and shadows, we fully illuminate our own power and strength. We are lighter now — more moderate in what we carry. It take humility to look at the darkness within us — ultimately expressing this humility builds strength and self-empowerment.

This is a time to offer gratitude for where we have come from and where we have landed. To silently be grateful for what we have, resisting the urge to take in more. We might express this gratitude in relationship with those few that we hold dearest — the folks in our lives that we are in community with. This is the stability that will guide us through the Winter ahead.
