September Full Moon Reflections + Yoga
Join Marta for our monthly Full Moon Reflections + Yoga class on Thursday, September 19th! This special monthly yoga class has a different Teacher each month, leaving no two classes the same. Full Moon Reflections + Yoga combines postural yoga, breath work, meditation and special theming to create a holistic experience for mind, body + spirit. September’s Full Moon in Pisces features the Autumnal Equinox Moon or the Full Moon — a time to find balance in our lives and create space for transition and change.
Our September Moon goes by many names:
- Autumn Moon (Cree)
- Falling Leaves Moon (Ojibwe)
- Leaves Turning Moon (Anishinaabe)
- Moon of Brown Leaves (Lakota)
- Yellow Leaf Moon (Assiniboine)
Each of these names signal that we are coming into a time of transition between seasons. We may also feel this transition within ourselves, feeling an urge to adjust aspects of our lives. Because the September Full Moon falls closest to the Equinox, we also refer to this Full Moon as the Harvest Moon. The Harvest Moon is not always in September, but it does lie closest to the Equinox. This alignment means that the Moon will rise at Sunset, very near the same time for several days in a row, creating a large, illuminated effect. This is a wonderful time to help illuminate and shed light on the areas of our life we may be interested in transitioning as well.
This month’s moon sits in Pisces and is part of a partial Lunar Eclipse — wow! What a Full Moon we have this month! Pisces has the greatest sensitivity and perceptiveness of surroundings. Because of this, and due to the natural shedding away of Autumn, you may experience a feeling of exposure or vulnerability, a bareness. This can create a natural time to lean into rituals and routines that help you to feel grounded and at home in your experience. Lunar Eclipses are about relationships and polarities. We are encouraged to find a balance between day-to-day functions and routines — just as the night and dark experience strong balance at this time of year.
After settling into the quiet routine of Autumn, now is a wonderful time to see all that you see laid before you. Tap into this sensitive pisces nature and check-in: with the Moon full and bright in the sky, symbolic “illumination” occurs in our own lives. However, these new feelings and revelations are emotional ones, as there is a sense of emotions bursting forth into our consciousness. It’s time to express ourselves, and to let things out of our systems.
This is a time to clear up past patterns that have been holding us back from personal fulfillment. We might open ourselves up to possibilities, examining the emotions that push to the surface, and allowing ourselves time to consider how we wish to move forward in reaching our deepest desires.
