Yoga Pose & Focus : 1/31-2/6

“If you do not tell the truth about yourself, you cannot tell it about other people.”  – Virginia Woolf

Theme: Satya / Honor
Virgina Woolf really says it best in the above quote. Do we speak with truth? What does it mean to speak with truth? Do we hold false beliefs about ourselves, based off the knowledge we have been told throughout our lives? Do these false beliefs project onto our peers? Being truthful to yourself means knowing yourself first. Everything cycles back to the SELF.

Flow/Align: Halasana / Plough Pose
Halasana or Plough Pose is a great big fold for the body. We recline on our backs and lift the feet up and over the head – if the ground feels very far from your feet, maybe play with blocks, or even a chair behind the head, giving your feet a landing place. Be truthful to yourself and honor your body – find the edge but don’t go beyond. Be sure to protect the neck and keep your gaze forward!

Yin/Restorative: Matsyasana / Supported Fish
Matsyasana or Supported Fish offers space for the body to be open and receptive. As the heart lifts towards the sky, choose the prop support of your choice – a block, a bolster, a rolled up blanket – all will offer lovely support and slight variation to the pose. Maybe try different options on different days, honoring your body’s needs for that moment. We don’t need to take a huge heart opener every day, it can also be lovely to have only a slight lift in the chest. Be truthful about your needs and desires.
