YOGA POSE + FOCUS: 04.22 – 04.28

“Anything you lose by speaking your truth isn’t a loss, it’s an alignment.” — Unkown

Weekly Focus: Satya — second yama, truthfulness

Spring provides inspiration with the emergence of new life and rebirth, encouraging us to reveal our most authentic selves, exposing the truth of who we are, and what we desire to be. Look to the wildflowers — unabashedly themselves as they emerge, bloom and blossom in their many inspiring forms. Can we allow ourselves to be unabashedly ourselves, growing and expanding in absolute “us-ness?” If you have ever planted native wildflowers in your yard, you will quickly learn that they are unable to be tamed, wild and free! This untamable freedom is what allows these flowers to spread and grow rapidly! When we feel driven towards acting in our most authentic ways, we might become encouraged to grow more fully into who we are and who we want to be, without fear of judgement or comment from those around us. We all have a unique and wild bloom within us waiting to be unleashed, we simply need to give ourselves permission to be ourselves.

Passive Pose of the Week: Constructive Rest

Let your body softly open up to the truth of who you want to be. Lying on your back, bend your knees and walk your feet to the edges of your mat. Allow your knees to knock in towards one another making a tent-like shape. Let your arms can land anywhere that feels comfortable. Take a few moments to breathe into the belly and the heart space.

Active Pose of the Week: Patita Tarasana – Fallen Triangle/Fallen Star

Be the star that you are in Fallen Star Pose! Be bold, be authentic, be true to you! This pose is a variation on a side plank. Begin by coming into a downward facing dog pose. Lift the right leg into the air and draw your right knee towards your left elbow, shifting the shoulders forward as you go and allowing the torso to twist (think plank pose). Kick your right foot to the left, driving the blade of your right foot to the floor as you bridge your hips up towards the ceiling. Your left arm will lift overhead as well making a dramatic shape with the body. Allow yourself to feel expressive and creative in this pose, adding in any dynamic and dramatic flair you wish!
