Yoga Pose & Focus : 12/6-12/12

“The cave you fear to enter holds the treasure you seek.” – Joseph Campbell

Theme: Kleshas
The 5 kleshas listed in the Yoga Sutras are the 5 obstacles that cause suffering. They are:

  • avidya- ignorance
  • asmita- ego
  • raga- desire
  • dvesha- aversion
  • abhnivesa- fear of death

The kleshas offer an opportunity to us to see the obstacle as not in the way, but THE way.

Flow Pose: Grasshopper
There are many obstacles that can get in the way of coming into Grasshopper pose: fear, balance, anatomy, mobility. Don’t let these obstacles deter you from working towards the goal. Can we reframe these obstructions as necessary challenges in our practice? Don’t forget to have fun as you practice – it’s not about the pose, it’s about the journey there!

Restorative Pose: Anjaneyasana
Anjaneyasana may not seem like a pose to settle into, so how can we set ourselves up for success with props to help support and stabilize? The pose itself may even seem like an obstruction to softening and quieting the mind. If we can move past the sensations, we may find  our calm within the mind and the breath.
