Yoga Pose + Focus : 2/7-2/13

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Theme: Authenticity
Even after we find a solid grounding in our core values, we still have to do the work of showing up authentically in our every day lives. If we respect ourselves, we will respect others. If we are kind to ourselves, we will be kind to others. If we value honesty, we must be honest with others. The list could go on endlessly.  Don’t try to be someone other than yourself.

Flow/Align: Ardha Chandrasana
Consider – if you are being authentic to your needs, desires, and intentions on the mat, why and how are you practicing Ardha Chandrasana or Half Moon Pose? We are all blessed with different anatomies and proportions, different mobilities, AND different goals on the mat. This can make a big difference in a pose like Half Moon. Really consider what you want when practicing your pose this week. Want to focus on opening the hips – maybe we use a chair or wall to support and release focus from the balance. Want to focus on length in the spine – consider bringing the ground closer with blocks, a water bottle, whatever you have. Want to focus on balance – move slowly, intentionally, and set your Drishti (gaze) in place first.

Stretch/Restore: Supta Badhakonasana
There are so many lovely ways to adapt this posture, what is your personal favorite? Choose the variation that speaks to your authentic practice and really roll with it. If practicing at home, pillows or rolled blankets can be a great support behind the knees. Play around with the position of the feet, how does moving the feet closer or further from the pelvis feel? Close your eyes, and let the weight of your own body sink you closer to the earth.
